This is a superb example of vintage British optics: a J.H. Dallmeyer Telephoto 3 inch f/3.5 lens, manufactured in London. Dating back to the mid-1930s (Serial No. 173736), this lens is an uncommon and highly sought-after telephoto prime for 16mm film cameras.

The 3-inch focal length (approximately 75mm) is an ideal telephoto for the 16mm format, offering significant reach for cinema or specialized photography. The fast f/35 maximum aperture provides excellent low-light performance and beautiful subject separation for a lens of this era.

The lens features the classic black barrel finish with a bright knurled silver focusing ring and is likely built for the C-Mount standard, common on cameras like Bolex, Bell & Howell, and Beaulieu.

Condition Report

The lens is in Very Good (VG) cosmetic condition for a highly vintage item and appears mechanically sound.

  • Optics: The glass elements are clear and bright. We detect no fungus or separation. Minor internal dust and light cleaning marks may be present, commensurate with its 1930s age, but should not affect image quality.
  • Mechanism: The knurled silver focusing ring operates smoothly. The aperture ring (located behind the silver ring) rotates correctly and the blades are clean.
  • Cosmetic: The black barrel shows some minor paint loss and surface scratches typical of a working vintage lens. Includes the original black metal lens hood/cap.
