This is a rare, vintage optical accessory from Leica, E. Leitz Wetzlar, the NOOKY Close-Up Focusing Device (Optisches Naheinstellgerät). This ingenious tool was essential for early Leica rangefinder camera users who wished to achieve macro or close-up photography.
The NOOKY mounts between the camera body and a specific 50mm lens (most commonly the collapsible 50mm Elmar f/3.5 or similar collapsible/rigid lens). It mechanically extends the lens for close focus and simultaneously uses its attached prism/goggle system to correct the rangefinder and viewfinder parallax. This allows the photographer to focus and frame accurately at distances as close as 16 inches (40 cm), well beyond the camera's normal focusing limit.
This collectors item is presented with its highly desirable original red maker's box, a significant addition to any Leica collection.
